The Conservative Wrong
Posted by: Krista
While I catch my breath after laughing at Donna’s last blog entries (loved the part about Britney, Lindsay, and Merchant/Ivory - which in that series doesn’t belong?), I have to chat briefly with ya’ll about words.
I’m a word geek. I love big words, I love making words up*, my favorite word is “perspicacity,” and I’m impressed by people who use big words. (Yes, I have a favorite word. Don’t you?)
Having said that, what’s wrong with calling the conservative right the conservative right? or the right wing, the right wing? That’s easy enough - the right is wrong (in more ways than one). I went to dictionary.com to help me out with this one and found that the top definition for the word “right” is:
1. in accordance with what is good, proper, or just: right conduct.
So, do you see my problem with using that word to talk about conservatives? That’s why I’ll be calling them the Conservative Wrong from now on.
And until I can completely disassociate the word “right” from the conservatives, I’ll cease using “right” and will instead substitute other words, like “correct” and “left.”
Left on, my friends!
*In case you’re interested, my latest newly coined word is “spanter” for spam filter. Like, gmail has a great spanter.

Thoughtful post. Words do matter, a lot.
Should progressives call themselves the liberal right?
I hadn’t thought of that, but I might try it out!
