Vote for Hillary Clinton on Tuesday!

I’m still feeling the energy and excitement from “my girl” in Tucson yesterday. Hillary Clinton wowed the crowd of about 5000 at the University of AZ’s Bear Down gymnasium. I’ve heard her speak a number of times before and am consistently impressed with her depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding of the world’s and our country’s problems and the possible solutions to them. We are not going to find a more well-qualified candidate for President than Hillary Clinton. I supported John Edwards in 2004 and felt that we as Democrats had selected a “safe choice” with Kerry. That was such a disappointing year, particularly having to constantly defend our party against the charge that we don’t stand for anything. Kerry refused to take strong stands on many issues, and that was wrong. Hillary Clinton stands for quite a few issues — and has NEVER been afraid of sticking her neck out. She reminded us yesterday that she had stuck her neck out for health care, and noted that it was quite lonely back in 1993 when she was advocating for radical reform of our health care system. Hillary has also consistently stood for children and families. I had the honor of meeting Judith Lichtman, one of the authors of the Family & Medical Leave Act, which was the first piece of legislation President Clinton signed into law upon becoming President. Judith had met the Clintons through Hillary, who she had known in law school — and it was Hillary’s passion that drove this remarkable legislation into becoming the centerpiece of Bill Clinton’s campaign and first term. Hillary spoke yesterday about her concerns over “Sovereign Funds” — other nations’ investment funds that are currently buying up US debt. I have to say, I have been to a lot of rallies for Presidential candidates and have never heard such complex ideas discussed in such easy-to-understand terms. I believe Hillary would be able to actually move this country to reforming its spending and saving practices. The crowd was cheering over her analysis of this issue — amazing. After the rally my husband and I took some of the young staffers who had organized the event out to dinner. The four of them are all under 25 and all have been volunteering on the campaign since Nevada. We asked why they became politically active and what had motivated them to support Hillary. One had carefully analyzed the policy positions of Obama and Hillary and had concluded that Hillary’s positions were much better thought-out than Obama’s. Another had met Hillary at a national convention of Hispanic legislators, and she had personally asked for his support. Another had been recruited by Obama to work on his campaign and had decided the team Hillary had assembled was better. The last one had been an intern in Hillary’s Senate office, and had seen a level of love and support for Hillary that completely transformed how he thought of politics. Hillary Clinton is the best choice for President of the United States. I hope you vote for her on Tuesday here in Arizona. (I already have!) Pamela Sutherland
