Bush - McCain Fundraiser at Phoenix Convention Center- CANCELLED
Posted by: Dana
More tomorrow- but it looks like McCain can’t even pull of a fundraiser in his home state…..shocking!!!
Statement from Rebekah Friend and Doug Hart on the cancelation of the McCain Bush Phoenix Convention Center Fundraiser:
We were surprised to hear that Sen. McCain is canceling the fundraiser at the convention center and moving it to a private home. The Arizona AFL-CIO and the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans were spearheading a protest and press conference at the Convention Center to give the President a nice warm welcome. Sen. McCain has stated he would have not problem campaigning with President Bush. It seems the Sen. McCain might be having second thoughts or the fundraiser was not going to be well attended. It might be rather embarrassing for Sen. McCain and the President to be greeted by more protestors than donors, especially in his own home state.
Rebekah Friend, Executive Director of the Arizona AFL-CIO stated, “McCain can run from campaigning with Bush in Arizona but McCain can’t run from President Bush on the issues. He has voted with the President 89% of the time. Social Security is one example.” Doug Hart, President of the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans stated, “Social Security provides a vital safety net to millions of seniors who worked for decades to be able to retire in comfort and security. I personally met wit McCain on Social Security in 2006 and he say’s one thing in a meeting and publically say’s something else. It is not straight talk, it is double talk. On this issue McCain again proves he is out of touch with the priorities and needs of working people.”
The last time President Bush was in Arizona was to push his Social Security Privatization plan. McCain joined the president in a town hall meeting in Tucson, Arizona on March 2005.
