Free Cindy McCain!

Obviously, I’m not the only one who gets the sense that John McCain has never mastered that whole “treating women like human beings” thing. I watched the youtube of his little performance at the Sturgis bike rally with a mixture of bewilderment and horror, as he joked that Cindy McCain should participate in the Miss Buffalo Chip competition (which features nudity and women performing simulated sex acts). What’s even worse was that their daughter Megan was on stage the whole time.  What’s even worse was this was not an off-the-cuff comment.  He read it off a script.  Creepy on many levels.

Now, I have to tell you, the political hack part of my brain is calculating the enormity of a Presidential candidate attending an event known for drunken debauchery, where he offers his own wife up to a cheering crowd of unshaven louts.  Yowza!   I rub my hands together, imagining McDimwit’s numbers going down.

Then I remember that McCain is the white Republican candidate, so of course it will be glossed over. This is where the “disgust with hypocrisy” part of my brain kicks in. I mean, it’s not like the Obamas went to a hip hop festival, featuring gangsta rappers and contests with nude and nearly-nude women, and attendees who sometimes break out into violence. It’s not like Barack joked that Michelle should participate in a contest where women are expected to be topless, and often bottomless. Because if that were to happen, the right wing would be beside itself. Rush and Hannity would be apoplectic, while O’Reilly would burst a vein on live TV. CNN would be doing 2 hour specials on “Rap Concerts: Are YOUR Children In Danger? Why are the Obamas appearing at them??!” But that didn’t happen.  John McCain went to a biker rally full of good old boys and girls and the response was mostly “aww how cute.” or “oh look he finally got a big crowd”.  Grr…

Okay, back to my original point, which is my gut reaction as a woman watching the tableau at Sturgis unfold before me, as John McCain stood on a stage joking about his wife being a piece of meat in front of a bunch of leering men. All I can say is, Cindy, for the love of all that is holy, GET AWAY FROM THAT AWFUL MAN! You have $109 million. Take your money and RUN. D-I-V-O-R-C-E. That’s all I’m sayin’. I’ll help you pack your stuff. You and your daughters can stay at a nice hotel. Or in one of your 8 houses. HE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU. I could see it in his eyes. I could see it in yours, as you gave that touching speech about your sons in Iraq, before he made a mockery of you (and all women) in front of those bikers. You deserve better than that.

I have a strong feeling she doesn’t read this blog. Too bad. For the rest of you Divas, here’s a nicely worded post by Gloria Feldt, about why what McCain did at Sturgis matters:

McCain looks in this video like he thinks publicly offering up his wife to participate in a sexist “beauty” contest was all in good humor, even complimentary, just like those boys in my high school. And it’s possible he’s equally oblivious. But isn’t that part of the problem: a man so out of touch he doesn’t know social mores have changed since the 1950’s and doesn’t get that a man isn’t entitled to run roughshod over a woman’s bodily integrity any more, not even his wife’s? Is anybody going to send him the memo and tell him to come into the 21st century? article

Seriously Cindy, I have a 2002 Honda Accord with plenty of room to make several trips for your stuff. Call me.

If true, that was a stupid for McLame to say. Having said that I have attended Sturgis in the past, like any huge gathering of humans, it does have it’s debauchery side. But there is so much more to Sturgis than that. A LOT of money is raised for charities for one thing. It soesn’t have any more “debauchery” than say, a DNC convention or an RNC convention. A LOT of debauchery goes on there too.

Jeff, the point isn’t the merits of the Sturgis bike rally! Did you really even read this post????

Jeff, the same could be said for Atlanta’s annual “Freaknik” festival. It’s a large group of people enjoying performances by rap, R&B, and hip hop artists. Sometimes it gets a little wild, and some debauchery goes down. And they raise money for charity too.

The difference is the participants at Freaknik are mostly African American. If the Obamas showed up there AT ALL, let alone Barack making jokes about Michelle onstage, the outrage from the media would be deafening. There are some places where Presidential Candidates frankly don’t belong. But if you happen to be the white Republican candidate the MSM gives you a pass for being at them.

Every time I see Cindy McCain I can’t help but think she has no feelings of self worth. I felt the same way about Pat Nixon. It was kind to offer her a ride away–heck, with her cash she could hire a moving van and have John’s stuff removed–but she won’t do it. Conservative women tend to have that “stand by your man” attitude that makes me want to slap them back to reality while screaming “WAKE UP SISTA!”
