And now, a moment of silence for Ward Connerly’s initiative.

Poor fledgling little thing couldn’t quite get off the ground.   Looks like the rate of invalid signatures is so high that the lawsuit filed by the opposition probably won’t be necessary.   Here is the Feathered Bastard’s cheeky take on the situation:  http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bastard/2008/08/kysten_sinema_helping_to_kick.php

Currently, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, which verifies the signatures for the Arizona Secretary of State, is reporting a 45.9 percent failure rate, meaning that’s how many are disqualified from the sample they’re going through. If this failure rate remains as high during the second round of checking, ACRI will not make it to the ballot, according to Maricopa County Elections spokesperson Kristi Passarelli.

Aww. Poor Ward. But really, poor Andy Thomas. He put his name on that travesty as state chairman. The amusing irony of this whole thing is that one of the rationales of the Connerly initiative was that affirmative action supposedly leads to incompetent people being put into positions for which they are unqualified. And here they turn around and hire incompetent consultants and unqualified petition circulators to get the signatures. Can’t blame affirmative action for that, Ward and Andy.
