THE FEDERAL DEFINITION OF ABSTINENCE-ONLY EDUCATION. Have you read this?

Some of them aren’t bad guidelines but for the most part it’s bizarro-world. Italics mine.
THE FEDERAL DEFINITION OF ABSTINENCE-ONLY EDUCATION
An eligible abstinence education program is one that:
A) has as its exclusive purpose, teaching the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by abstaining from sexual activity; Funny, I thought the human sex drive is normal and healthy. Do they mean ALL sexual activity, even the solo kind?
B) teaches abstinence from sexual activity outside marriage as the expected standard for all school-age children; So once you graduate high school, you’re off the hook on that marriage mandate. This is a relief to my 39 year old never-married mind.
C) teaches that abstinence from sexual activity is the only certain way to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other associated health problems; Can’t argue with that one. Then again, castrating yourself would be an even better guarantee. And I guess rape doesn’t happen in Abstinence Only Land.
D) teaches that a mutually faithful monogamous relationship in the context of marriage is the expected standard of human sexual activity; By whom? Also, are the “expected standards of human sexual activity” different in MA and CA, where gays can marry?
E) teaches that sexual activity outside the context of marriage is likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects; Oh dear, sounds ominous. My harmful effects haven’t kicked in yet. Better brace myself.
F) teaches that bearing children out-of-wedlock is likely to have harmful consequences for the child, the child’s parents, and society; Really? Color me confused. That contradicts what I’ve been hearing all week from right wing pundits and religious leaders about out-of-wedlock pregnancy. They’re saying it’s a miracle and a gift from heaven. Things that make you go hmm.
G) teaches young people how to reject sexual advances and how alcohol and drug use increase vulnerability to sexual advances; and Not a bad point.
H) teaches the importance of attaining self-sufficiency before engaging in sexual activity. Or you can marry your baby’s daddy while still in high school.

So heh, you’re saying that celibacy makes people conservative?
