Update on the McCain story.

The rumors I’d been hearing were about “McCain” and “prescription drugs”.    By yesterday the speculation had reached fever pitch, with some bloggers drawing conclusions that it was about McCain taking prescriptions for a medical condition.   A bad one.   I’ll just leave it at that.   One person on a message board insisted that he’d called his friend who worked at the Baltimore Sun, who confirmed that the buzz was about McCain’s health.   This could be idle blog chatter or a “telephone game” situation, where a statement gets passed from person to person until it’s unrecognizable from the original.

The story that broke this morning on WaPo was about prescription drugs.  However, it was about Cindy McCain’s former addiction to painkillers and the whistleblower, Tom Gosinski, who got fired for revealing her drug theft from her charity and prescription forgeries.  Many Arizonans are familiar with the tale, as it was big news here when it happened.   But Gosinski has stepped forward to reveal more sordid details, including how Senator McCain used his position to obstruct justice.   Gosinski has released his journals to news organizations.   There are some disturbing accounts in them about how McCain handled his wife’s drug problem.   Rawstory covered it today.  http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Whistleblower_breaks_15year_silence_to_allege_0911.html

Here’s the really weird thing.  WaPo had their story up this morning and then quickly yanked it.   It’s gone.

Somebody got this screenshot though:

It’s actually very sad, if it’s true. Sorry to be cryptic. It might not break until Friday, since tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11. And I might be completely wrong, so take my prediction with a grain of salt. If it’s nothing, I promise I’ll divulge and deliver a mea culpa.
