Not funny at all

Hey, I know I haven’t posted in a really long time, but I’m still able to log in, so guess I’m still a diva.

At the risk of sounding lectury here, I have to say something. I am having a really hard time figuring out where the line is between “not celebrating the crime” and “making fun of the idiot it happened to”, and I am pretty offended by the “Bwahahahahaha” post. I don’t think it’s ever ok to make fun of someone who was victimized and make a hero out of the person who did it.

Ya know Katie, I understand what you’re saying and in 99.999% cases I’d agree. However, the young man who is alleging this happened to him is an idiot who deserves to be hoisted up on his own petard. He smugly told an interviewer that he wishes for Iran to be nuked. I don’t actively wish the young man harm, but you’ll have to forgive me for not having a whole lot of sympathy for anything that happens to him. I’ll save that for his contemporaries who are serving their country in Iraq.

BTW, the description of the crime fits the M.O. of thieves who pose as prostitutes. Which would make our victim not only a greedy little warmonger but a john.

I hear what you’re saying, and I felt very strongly about this, so strongly that I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my name on this blog if I hadn’t said something about it. I’m not asking you to change your mind. I appreciate that we can all have our voice heard and agree to disagree.

    Ha!! Funny!!

This same thing happened to my friend, while I was in the Military. He got “Ruffy’d”, they took his wallet and his cheap Casio watch!!

In this guys case…., what would he be doing carrying an expensive purse?? Does he have something else, to disclose?? Is he sure he is supporting the RIGHT party?? For that matter, is his party sure they want to have him as their delegate??

    REGARDS,

Thank you, Katie, for pointing out that Donna does not fully represent Democratic Diva.

Keep in mind that Donna would be saying the same thing (as would Wonkette) had he not just been robbed but if he had been sodomized (oh I’m sure they’d be saying a lot more, in fact), hospitalized, or murdered. She doesn’t have sympathy for “anything that happens to him.”

In these sorts of matters, it’s not “agree to disagree” but wholehearted condemnation that is warranted. If crimes aren’t crimes depending on who’s the victim, then anarchy and lawlessness wins. It was true in the South, it was true in Germany, and it’s true in St. Paul.

I seriously doubt that if that tool had been sodomized or murdered that Wonkette or Donna would have taken the same tack. I’ll leave that for them to declare or not; however, we should all remember that whatever we put out into the universe comes back by threes. Do unto others as you would wish for them to do unto you.

That being said, anybody willing to go on camera and be that much of a douche rather deserves a fat ole karma sandwich.

Bill, it’s funny but I don’t see your name as one of the contributors here. You are not in a position to dictate who or what represents this blog correctly. I respect Katie’s opinion and she and I can have a disagreement about something because this is not a monolith.

  7. Comment by Bill on September 17, 2008 12:21 pm

Whoever said I was dictating anything? Ah yes, the thin-skinned liberal. I was merely expressing appreciation to Katie for her dissent, which is exactly what you did as well, and offering comment.

If you do not want comments, then don’t turn comments on for your entries. But don’t allow comments and then chide them for not being one of the contributors listed.

    Ahh, schadenfreude.

That story represents the Idiocracy-type humor that a lot of people enjoy. It reminded me very much of the Darwin awards, which has an Alexa rating of: 31,549. That’s kind of popular.

Just to put it in perspective, DemocraticDiva.com has an Alexa rating of: 8,751,888 (it does pain me to list that). Not that you have to put a lot of stock in what Alexa has to say :)

Ya’ll are entitled to your opinion, and now I’ve added some more info to the mix. Feel free to discuss further :)

Just for the record, I don’t think any of the authors represent the blog. The point is to give women a place to offer political discussion and commentary. If anyone else wants to contribute, drop me a line in the comments.

The blog is a stage, and the authors merely players.

Sorry to mix personal commentary with my admin duties, but I didn’t feel like posting two comments :)

I can almost see your chest puffing up and you adjusting your pipe as you pontificate about “these sorts of matters.”

If you don’t like whatyou read, I highly recommend the little “X” in the upper right corner of your screen.

Lavender, I wonder if Bill extends that “wholehearted condemnation” to our illegal invasion of Iraq.
