The latest right wing talking point du jour is that it’s “inappropriate to do comedy during a financial crisis”.

That was the gist of a statement from the McCain camp read on MSNBC regarding the candidate being too scared concerned with the economic crisis to show up for his David Letterman appearance. Letterman skewered him in the monologue and replaced him with Keith Olbermann (which is the substitute guest equivalent of flipping McCain the bird). I went a-Googling about this and sure enough, the right wing bloggers got their morning talking points from Karl and they are running with them. The mean ol’ libruls are laughing while the economy burns!
No comedy during bad financial times? Someone must have forgotten to tell these guys:
There are apparently no comedy restrictions on war, though. When there are US troops in the line of fire in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and a suicide bombing somewhere every few days or so, it’s entirely appropriate to sing “Bomb Bomb Iran” at a campaign appearance. Just so you know.

The Letterman/Olbermann appearance was great. And of course, pure comedy with the Palin/Couric interview (and simultaneously painful to watch).
