This is why I don’t have my own blog

So, I know I said a while ago that I would post about my experience with light rail. It sort of seems anti-climactic now that it’s been a week and a half. Suffice it to say, I am very excited to have light rail in Phoenix, and I am looking for lots of opportunities to use it. If you’ve read any of the news coverage of the opening day activities, you know that there were long lines and people had to wait a while to ride. Except for the long wait, which was to be expected, I did have one other negative experience. At one of the stops I was at, there were two men who appeared homeless, or at least frequent users of public transit. When the doors of a packed train opened and no one moved to get off, one of the men suggested to the riders that they get off and allow others to get on. They were laughed at, and one guy said, “We’re not getting off to let you on, that’s for sure.” What an ass! And, I got my pictures downloaded, but I don’t know how to put one on here. Oh well.

I was on my way to Best Buy to purchase a digital converter box the other day and listening to NPR. They were discussing what is going on in Gaza. I am very saddened about the violence, and at a loss to understand why it can’t be resolved. But the particular story I was listening to was about the conditions the people are living in right now, and really, it is unimaginable. It made me think about how much we take for granted and how much we really have to be thankful for. I can go about my day and move about freely, without worrying about being separated from my children, or planning for the few hours I might have electricity, or how I might get to the store in order to put dinner on the table. It made me think about how things like getting on the light rail and making sure I have a TV signal are really very insignificant indeed.
