John McCain to Hispanic voters: “You people made your choice”
Posted by: Donna
Senator McCain, once again, did a fabulous job of demonstrating his social ineptitude and poor anger-management skills at a recent meeting with business leaders in Washington.
What began as a collegial airing of views abruptly changed when McCain spoke about immigration, according to these sources, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution. Anonymity was also requested by a third source, who was not at the meeting but was told, independently of the other two, that McCain had displayed his notorious temper.
“He was angry,” one source said. “He was over the top. In some cases, he rolled his eyes a lot. There were portions of the meeting where he was just staring at the ceiling, and he wasn’t even listening to us. We came out of the meeting really upset.”
McCain’s message was obvious, the source continued: After bucking his party on immigration, he had no sympathy for Hispanics who are dissatisfied with President Obama’s pace on the issue. “He threw out [the words] ‘You people — you people made your choice. You made your choice during the election,’ ” the source said. “It was almost as if [he was saying] ‘You’re cut off!’ We felt very uncomfortable when we walked away from the meeting because of that.”
McCain’s tantrum stemmed from his perception that he was snubbed by Hispanic voters in the election, despite his considerable efforts on immigration reform. And just like a tantrum-throwing child, he’s taking his toys and going home. I don’t suppose it’s occured to him that Hispanics care about other issues besides immigration. It’s also entirely possible that it wasn’t McCain who was the problem with that particular voting bloc, but the people he was palling around with during the election.
I’ve got another post to do about the budget memo but I’ll have to get to it tomorrow. I just thought this story was noteworthy in the context of this week’s events. Can you imagine President John McCain in Europe right now? Shudder.

In Europe he might do the same thing: be angry with them because he barely got any votes from those precincts over there. :>)
What this tells me is pretty simple.
The real reason why during the stimulus negotiations other ‘moderate’ Republicans were in there hammering out a deal and McCain was on the outside complaining wasn’t because he was standing on any principle.
Other than the principle that he’s still sore about the election, of course.
Sour grapes. Nothing but plain, ordinary old fashioned sour grapes.
By the way, his ‘you people’ were the same ones who voted against him? He did get over four million votes from Hispanics anyway. So apparently he thinks the same about all of them.
And here is McCain at the NATO summit:
French President Sarkozy: Welcome to France, Mr. President.
McCain: Charmed, I’m sure. By the way I ordered the Freedom Fries. Remember you folks wouldn’t go fight in Iraq with us.
Sarkozy: Well, that was my predecessor. And he was right, I’m glad we didn’t send our army to Iraq.
McCain: It was still the French. I blame all of you. And some years later the ‘surge’ worked. You were off enjoying your health care while we were making the world safer for you.
Sarkozy: The world isn’t safer economically. How about a concerted plan to buy bad assets from banks.
McCain: I don’t get economics. I’ll have to call Carly and Mitt and get back to you on that.
Sarkozy: We might also suggest a tax cut, Mr. President.
McCain (perking up): Now THAT’S what I like to hear. Let’s talk Turkey.
Turkish President: It’s about time. I don’t like the Danish candidate because of the cartoons criticizing the prophet Mohammed.
McCain: Well, he doesn’t like you either. And neither do I. I don’t trust Saracens.
Turkish President: But the cartoons are insulting.
McCain: Well, if you come from a country called, “Turkey” then you should expect to be insulted a lot.
Here’s a happier note: Isn’t it nice not to have to worry about being embarrassed by the president when he goes overseas (or opens his mouth) anymore?
