Congressman Grayson on health care reform
Posted by: Krista
I thoroughly enjoyed this…
…but not as much as I enjoyed this:
The health care reform debate reached a new milestone Tuesday as a key congressional committee passed an $829 billion plan projected to extend coverage to an additional 29 million Americans.
…The committee passed its long-awaited plan Tuesday with a 14-9 vote. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, was the lone committee member to cross party lines, breaking with other Republicans to vote for the measure. All the committee’s Democrats supported the bill.
I think we can call that one small step forward.

Kristi: I liked Grayson better when he read and questioned bills like he did a month ago.
Also, generally vegetarians are Liberals, so Conservatives will not outlaw bacon.
29 million more Americans to be insured. Cool. Well, who is going to care for them since we already have a shortage of doctors? It takes 10 or so years to train a doctor and we are just going to flood an already shortage of doctors with 29 million more people. Real smart. How do you think our shortage of doctors will play out in this influx in people?
False dichotomy. This is not a Democrats want reform and Republicans do not. What if they want the market to be more free instead of more government intervention? Do they just have to give up and go along with the Democrats way of reform or should they continue to represent their constituents?
Shorter Konfused Kancer: Die quickly. We don’t have enough doctors for your worthless, uninsured ass.
How much do you want to bet he’s anti-abortion?
@Donna: I wasn’t talking to you. I asked Kristen the question.
Let it be seen that Donna wishes death upon people who disagree with her. Real civil!
Apologies… Kristi.
Her name is Krista and your reading comprehension is very poor.
Um Donna. I said I am sorry and corrected myself.
Are you too bitter to allow me to do this?
Konfusing:
I can’t believe you really think people shouldn’t have heallth care coverage because there aren’t enough doctors to go around. Should we also refuse children an education because there aren’t enough teachers? Or should we let your house burn down because there aren’t enough firefighters?
Repubs, in general, are not representing their constituents when they vote against health care reform.
Krista: I believe he’s saying that with a doctor shortage, adding 29 million more people to the rolls might aggravate the health care problem.
The uninsured have health care coverage through emergency rooms. Having to go to the ER for something minor is more of a hassle than being able to go to a doctor’s office. In economic terms, when demand increases considerably but supply stays put (or only slightly increases) then there will be a shortage.
Your analogies to education and firefighting aren’t particularly apt. But we would refuse children an education (at least temporarily) if say 2 million children rapidly moved into an area with three schools. And houses would burn down if a whole city started burning.

IOW they are less likely to access care until their need becomes severe. Which means they die sooner. 122 people die every day due to lack of health care coverage. Like Grayson says, the Republican health care plan is to not get sick, and if you do, die quickly.
The current shortage of doctors is artificially created by the medical establishment itself. They put a cap on the number of students who can get into medical school to keep salaries high. Raise or remove the cap and the doctor shortage will go away.
Your analogies to entire cities burning and millions of children moving into a school district are patently absurd. Adding 29 – 40 million more to the 240 million Americans who already have insurance does not even remotely compare.
