The current shortage of doctors is artificially created by the medical establishment itself. They put a cap on the number of students who can get into medical school to keep salaries high. Raise or remove the cap and the doctor shortage will go away.

Your analogies to entire cities burning and millions of children moving into a school district are patently absurd. Adding 29 – 40 million more to the 240 million Americans who already have insurance does not even remotely compare.

The uninsured have health care coverage through emergency rooms. Having to go to the ER for something minor is more of a hassle than being able to go to a doctor’s office. In economic terms, when demand increases considerably but supply stays put (or only slightly increases) then there will be a shortage.

Your analogies to education and firefighting aren’t particularly apt. But we would refuse children an education (at least temporarily) if say 2 million children rapidly moved into an area with three schools. And houses would burn down if a whole city started burning.

I can’t believe you really think people shouldn’t have heallth care coverage because there aren’t enough doctors to go around. Should we also refuse children an education because there aren’t enough teachers? Or should we let your house burn down because there aren’t enough firefighters?

It takes 10 or so years to train a doctor and we are just going to flood an already shortage of doctors with 29 million more people. Real smart. How do you think our shortage of doctors will play out in this influx in people?
