Russell Pearce hates (illegal) immigrants. Except when they want to buy guns.

So Russell Pearce has a bill, SB1102, that will get rid of concealed carry permits. We don’t need ‘em, cuz only the good guys get them anyway. Sen. Ken Cheuvront was successful in amending the bill to establish felony charges for selling or transferring firearms at a gun show without requiring buyers to prove they are U.S. citizens. Right now there is no background check at all required for someone to purchase a gun from a private dealer or at a gun show. So this would require sellers at a gun show to check the citizenship status of someone buying a gun. Seems right up Pearce’s ally, right?
Not really. He’s mad. “We already have laws against the bad guys getting these guns,” he said. Hmmm. Except, see there’s no background check required when someone purchases a gun at a gun show. So, what law is there that keeps any bad guys from getting any guns?
The real intent of Cheuvront’s amendment was to slow the bill down – there’s an identical bill in the House, so if the Senate bill had made it through without the amendment, it wouldn’t have had to go to the House. This amendment takes the bill off the fast track.
Russell Pearce is about guns and illegal immigration. It’s brilliant that Cheuvront used one of these issues to derail the other. I’m sure the bill will eventually pass, without the amendment. But, if bad legislation is gonna get passed, might as well have a little fun trying to kill it.

I had hoped the left was better than the empty rhetoric attack noe pevading the media. But I guess it’s just too much to ask that they pass on such excellent sounds bites as, “Breathing while brown” and “When brown means illegal.” Illegal immigration is a problem with serious negative effects: http://www.thinkersjam.com/illegal-immigration-is-not-a-racial-issue/. Maybe at some point we can get past the incendiary rhetoric and have a real discussion on the matter.”
