All you need to debunk the “it was Janet Napolitano’s fault!” claim re: the private prison escape.

At our Sunday Square Off taping Friday morning, Howie Fischer tried to play the “blame Janet” card, saying that a flawed inmate classification system was what allowed three violent offenders to be placed in a medium security facility. It was Napolitano’s system, according to Howie. I asked Howie what, if anything, Governor Brewer had done to change it. He acknowledged that she’d done nothing, but still, Janet!!

Okay. Fine. Leave aside the other issues, such as human error at the Kingman facility and the unholy alliance of the private prison industry, the Brewer administration, and Republican legislators. Look at Arizona’s inmate classification directive. You can find it in a 23 page pdf right on the AZ Dept. of Corrections website. Something stands out right away, doesn’t it? I’ve helpfully circled it for you.

Pop Quiz: Who was the Governor of Arizona on February 25, 2010?

I didn’t even know about the date of the order until Terry Goddard brought it up in his rousing speech at the AZ Democratic Party State Committee meeting yesterday. Brewer owns this – lock, stock, and Inmate Classification order. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Awesome, me missed the show on tee-bee, but thanks for the link. I still think Brewer is shaking in her you know whats because of being(as you brought up) knee deep in private prison lobbyists. Her high ranking staff, Coughlin and Gullet are lobbyists for, as you likely know, geuss who?
“Harumph-harumph. Nothing to see here. Move along.”"
Ha! I want ol’ Benji to win the Gooper primary too. Can you imagine a debate between him and Goddard? Painful to watch.

Thanks for the hidee-ho. This kittys been through the wringer, I’m down to seven. Early AM is easy if I know ahead. I enjoy watching you bring up points that most likely make the usual viewer see a diffferent side, rather than the spin job of Repubs.
Brahm seems to enjoy you being there.
    Thanks again. Muh!

Wonder of all wonders. In the 2010 budget in the 7th special session, there was an $40 million appropriation for ADC for 2000 NEW private beds.

Did you read that? I have been screaming mad about this for months and have seen nothing in print about the expenditure. I will also say I was on the capitol campus shortly after the bill was passed and there was quite a big tented fiesta for the legislators catered by the private prison lobby.

I digress. I just want to point out that $18 million was CUT from AHCCCS–eliminating Kids Care–yet Jan Brewer made sure HER budget included an additional $40 million for private prison beds.

Because as we all know, when you don’t care for the education and health and welfare of kids, they end up in prison. So why not plan for the future, eh?

Oh, there was a $58 million appropriation for 4000 new state beds. Note the savings between the two–state vs. private? And it’s liberals who aren’t so good with their money?! Go. Effing. Figure.
