Update on Tony the Bitter Substitute: The class DID watch the Lou Dobbs video

Glendale Elementary School District confirms that Tony Hill, writer of the offensive letter Senator Klein read from the floor, did indeed sub for an 8th grade class recently. And the students were asked to write to Sen. Gallardo about his statements on the 2007 Lou Dobbs interview. But it was to be a position paper, where they could agree or disagree with Gallardo and had to defend their opinion. Okay, that makes a lot more sense than Hill’s claim that they were writing Gallardo thank you letters for his “support of Illegal Immigrant Rights”. Tony didn’t manufacture this out of whole cloth as I’d initially suspected, but he did distort the intention of the assignment.

Bet he walked in with the attitude that they were miscreants and since kids do pick up on that, I am fairly sure he got treated with equal lack of respect.

Why would elementary kids, be put in a situation, adults can’t seem to handle, like immigration ?

Seems like this curriculum, pits children against their differences.

What are they teaching children in Arizona !!!!

One can’t be blamed for thinking Hill’s letter was a hoax, as it contained just about every racist stereotype imaginable. Substitute or not, this guy’s got no business being anywhere near a classroom.

I’ve tried to cultivate a reputation as the cranky old guy in my neighborhood who’s always telling the kids to stay off his lawn. The kids don’t buy it, of course. They tend to be very perceptive with regard to kindness and hostility, and can see through a lot of BS.

Maybe that’s what happened in Mr. Hill’s classroom. The kids sensed his malice.

In any case, he’s an adult and should have handled things as such.

Maybe he should try a job he doesn’t suck at.

So let me get this straight, the whole letter was shenanigans, yet everthing checks out, but it is still a bunch of lies?

Jeff, everything doesn’t check out, as I’ve just demonstrated about Hill’s claim about the assignment. He said it was a thank you letter to Steve Gallardo for his support for “Illegal Immigration Rights”. It wasn’t.
