Why doesn’t Constantin Querard consider battering women to be an impediment to a “Friend of the Family” award?

A Dem legislator who is a Facebook friend posted that something called the AZ Family Project announced their Friend of the Family Awards for 2011. Congratulations to all the winners, who are mostly the GOP Senate and House delegation of the Arizona Legislature. I have helpfully underlined a couple of them in red.
What is the AZ Family Project and who is behind it? Click on the Arizona Conservative Club link and you learn it leads to none other than right wing uber-consultant Constantin Querard.
About Constantin Querard
“One of Arizona’s Top 5 Movers & Shakers”
Arizona Capitol Times (Jan, 2011)“If you look back at the last decade to determine who has had the most influence on the make up of the legislature, Constantin Querard would have to be at the top of the list.” Greg Patterson, Espresso Pundit, (08/26/10)
Constantin Querard is the founder and president of Discessio, LLC and High Noon Campaign Products, LLC (a vender of campaign products, including direct mail, television and radio production, and more).
Constantin is an original founder of the Arizona Family Project, an Arizona non-profit focused on involving Arizona’s families in the public policy process, and he served as the organization’s Executive Director for several years. He continues to share his expertise with pro-family activists by teaching various training schools and by speaking to pro-family groups across Arizona. His pro-family work history also includes serving as the Executive Director of Citizens for Arizona Policy and CAP-PAC, as well as Director of Development for Arizona Right to Life.
On the for-profit side, Constantin has been active in Arizona and Colorado politics for more than two decades, working on a variety of campaigns for pro-family candidates and causes. He has also managed campaigns for candidates from the State Legislative level to the U.S. Senate. His work in Arizona over the last few election cycles is widely credited for shifting the Arizona State Legislature to the right, earning him kudos from conservative groups and the collective wrath of liberal media outlets and assorted left-wing groups.
One reason we are sharing so much information on Constantin with you is that given his involvement in our organization and his involvement with so many good conservative candidates, it is a virtual certainty that many of the races and candidates we recommend to you will be clients of his. This isn’t a conflict of interest so much as a confluence of interest. His record in shifting the Arizona Legislature to the right makes him an ideal talent scout for our organization. Still, we want to be sure that we are above board with you and we believe it is vitally important that we disclose his dual roles so that you can continue to rely on us for honest information. Furthermore, anytime we recommend a candidate to you that Constantin is working with, we will disclose that specific relationship to you as well.
You can learn more about Constantin’s clients here. You should see a lot of familiar and welcome faces on that list. He knows how to find good conservative candidates and how to get them elected, so his involvement in the ACC is great news for all.
To be honest I’ve never met Mr. Querard in person and my one and only encounter with him thus far was a recent conversation on a mutual Facebook friend’s post about abortion. I found him to be condescending and patronizing toward women on that topic. In 2008, Querard told Blog for Arizona that he opposes abortion in all cases except to save the life of the woman. Which means that Constantin is generous enough to allow for abortion if the woman is about to die from her pregnancy, but not if she was a rape or incest victim, carrying a severely deformed fetus, or at risk of a serious health complication from carrying to term.
So I have to wonder about how much consideration Querard’s Arizona Family Project Friend of the Family Award gives to the well-being of women when the honor is bestowed upon the likes of Sen. Scott Bundgaard and Sen. Russell Pearce.
Russell Pearce has been awarded the Friend of the Family Award every year since 2003.
