Phoenix Human Rights Commission votes to oust Arpaio. Wingnuts are displeased.

My good bud Diane D’Angelo chairs the City of Phoenix Human Rights Commission. Unlike many boards and commissions, HRC actually does stuff. Last night they voted unanimously to demand Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s resignation for numerous and egregious civil and human rights violations. Needless to say this has caused consternation among Arpaio’s nativist fan club and I’m told they are pestering the City Manager’s office with calls demanding Diane’s removal from the Commission. So I just wanted to announce to the Diva-verse that y’all should call 602-262-6941 to support Diane and the great work of the HRC. Only takes a second and you’ll feel great after you do it. kthxbai

Cool! Left my message with a very pleasant and pleased lady. She said she’s been getting a lot of calls. Seems to be a lot in favor.
Finally a City Dept with huevos. ‘Course it took a woman ….

Donna, thank you. I simply don’t concur that a citizen’s commission is merely supposed to be a public relations arm for the mayor or the city manager. We serve a vital function and will continue to do so.
