Divas Disagree on CD9 Choice

Well, I’m back for my second DemDiva post of the year and for such a surprising reason. I am fairly sure this is the first time I’m supporting a different candidate than Donna. (Donna, what happened? I feel betrayed! Schapira, The Safe Choice(TM)?)

Now don’t get me wrong, I respect Schapira and think he’s a decent choice, but when it’s a choice between Kyrsten Sinema and Schapira, I’ll take Sinema. Isn’t Schapira “Sinema-light”, anyway?

(Yes, folks, I realize there are three candidates, but I’m still disappointed in the third candidate for running for Dem Party chair and quitting 17 seconds after he won. I’m holding a grudge on this one. Sorry, Andrei, I hope we can still be friends.)

Moving on. Let me preface my reasoning with this – I think they’re all good candidates and whoever wins will have the full support of her former opposition.

Anyway, let’s think about this rationally. What would happen if Schapira won? He may be a decent candidate and a hard worker, but he’s proven he lacks one major quality we need in a candidate: the ability to raise money. Even with the other two Dems out of the race, can he raise the kind of cash needed to win this seat? That should be a major red flag for everyone.

Also, I don’t buy in to him being more appealing to moderates. Once the primary is over, the Repubs will paint him as a lefty liberal socialist, and they’ll spend the money to do it. Even if it isn’t true, we know they make shit up.

Schapira has no baggage? More like he’s coasting because of his minuscule campaign chest. Digging for skeletons is a waste of money at this point. In the general, Repubs will be all over that. And don’t forget, they make shit up.

But that’s enough about that. This is really about Kyrsten Sinema and why she’s such a kick ass candidate and really has a chance to take this seat in November. Did you hear that? We actually have a chance to TAKE THIS SEAT IN NOVEMBER.

Kyrsten has the cash and will run those wells dry in the general. People believe in her enough to shell out their hard earned dollars. I plan on making more contributions as the election goes on, and I am stingy.

Kyrsten’s the hardest campaigner you’ll ever meet and will knock on every god damn door in the district to get elected. That’s how we’re going to take this seat.

She’s brilliant. I don’t think anyone could contest that. She really is brilliant.

Kyrsten is effective even when the odds are overwhelmingly against her. I can only assume she has a magic wand or is an expert at hypnosis. Or she’s uncannily talented in cultivating relationships and working both sides of the aisle to make Repubs see her point of view. I guess that is like magic.

This next thing isn’t so much about the race, but I am continually floored by the amount of time and energy Kyrsten has invested in women, in building the Democratic party, and in cultivating Democrats to run for office. Kyrsten is generous with her time. She’s a regular speaker for Emerge Arizona trainings. I’ve seen her speak at numerous events and meetings for various organizations. And she helps fellow Dems who are running for office, by donating her time, giving advice, or making monetary contributions. She’s like moneybags Jim Pederson, only with blood, sweat, and tears instead of the moneybags.

So, yeah, Kyrsten has my support, and if you like strong, independent, savvy, and brilliant women, you should throw your support behind Kyrsten. Remember, when women vote, women win. And we need more (of the right, read “left”) women in all levels of government.

That’s about all I have to say for now. Although, I guess I should apologize for the swearing. It’s really not like me, but I’ve been a little cranky lately. I’m six months pregnant, it’s a hundred billion degrees outside, I’m carrying 20 extra pounds (and the baby only weighs one pound right now? amniotic fluid must be made of liquid gold), and we’ve got like two more months of this weather to look forward to. The heat brings out my potty typing.

Okay, one more thing. You can’t leave any negative comments. I’m pregnant, don’t mess with me. Or… do mess with me, I’m pregnant and need an outlet for my crankiness.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. However, I’ve got one advantage over you in that I actually got to vote in CD9. :)

And I’m not saying Sinema can’t win. She is as brilliant and talented and dynamic as you say, and yes, she has money. But I can tell you as someone who lived in Ahwatukee for 9 years and ran for office myself there, it’s not going to be easy at all.

Donna you know in your heart Krista is right. Kyrsten is a woman whose time has come. Who better to lead the pushback against the Replican war on women than a woman. In the time Kyrsten was in the legislature she was the most productive Dem of them all. No one else got as many bills passed or stopped so many idiotic bills. She was chosen by President Obama to help pass and educate Arizonans about the ACA. She is tireless and she has the support of so many people. Friendship is a nice thing, but I want someone who is a skilled fighter with no fear to go against the teabaggers. I’m sorry but David is just not as tough as her.

At least you didn’t say vagina.

As some other Diva WELL knows I too also vote in CD9 and have Sinema swoon. I geuss moving to El Norte has made her forget us left in the ‘hood.

Irregardless of that (hee), good to have you back. More please.

Donna, It’s disappointing for me not to be able to vote in CD9, but I’m glad I get to vote in LD24. So instead of voting, I’m donating :) And I would have supported you in your 2006 race for some of the same reasons I support Sinema now – you’re brilliant, savvy, and quick-witted. If only running for office were easy, we’d all be running all the time :)

    John, Well said. Thank you.

Timmys Cat, Thanks, I think :)
