No longer content merely to annoy people at breakfast clubs, local libertarians take their clown routine to the national stage.

Ugh. I recognized those two chuckleheads immediately.

Ernie Hancock is a fixture in the Phoenix Libertarian community. I wrote about him last year, when I had the misfortune of being on the panel with him at a breakfast meeting. Ernie and Chris, the guy who accessorized his Brooks Brothers ensemble with a semi-automatic weapon at yesterday’s protest, are friends. In the CNN footage, it appears as though Chris is being interviewed by a journalist. In actuality, it’s Hancock who is interviewing him. It’s staged for his Freedom’s Phoenix website. Looks like their little stunt worked because they’re getting gobs of attention. Whoopie for them.

There are undoubtedly going to be more chuckleheads packing heat at Obama events and town halls and upping the ante on taunting the authorities and intimidating their fellow citizens. This may lead to attempts to legislate the carrying of weapons at these types of events. Which will, of course, give chuckleheads a reason to scream about Obama taking their guns away.

UPDATE: Here’s TPM’s latest post about Hancock bragging to CNN’s Rick Sanchez how he and his merry band of narcissistic buffoons planned their little escapade. He claims that the Phoenix PD was alerted to their plans beforehand and that they assigned them their very own police officer for the day. Great use of my tax dollars, Ernie.

Great use of my tax dollars

And here I thought that Libertarians were against unnecessary taxing and spending.

Silly me, to think such a thing.
