A little hair goes a long way

Between working full time and contracting on the side, commuting, spending time with my husband and family, and doing my various Democratic duties, I don’t have a lot of time to volunteer. But, I’m a Democrat, and to me being a Democrat is about helping people. To fulfill my quota, I try to find small deeds that I know I can complete.

One such deed is donating hair to Locks of Love, an organization that uses donated hair to create wigs for children who suffered from hair loss due to a medical condition.

It takes me about two years to grow my hair long enough to donate (there’s a ten inch minimum), and tonight I made my third donation to the organization. Unfortunately, the battery on my digital camera was dead, so I had to make do with my camera phone. Here are some pics:

A very un-divalike mess…

This is a little more aesthetically pleasing…

And here’s the prized catch…

There you have it. The donation looks so insignificant when it’s confined in a braid, but I’m still glad I did it. I love donating to Locks of Love and hope my contribution goes a long way. Two more years to go before the next donation!

Thanks to Dolce Salon Spa for the complimentary cut and style.

That’s awesome Krista! I’ve thought about doing it myself, having an abundance of thick hair. The problem is that once it grows past my shoulders it becomes impossible to style or even comb and I get headaches from the sheer weight of it.

Whoever receives the wig will be blessed to have locks grown atop a brilliant head! :)
