Per today’s AZ Republic:

The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona,is asking the federal court to prevent a new state abortion law from going into effect at the end of the year.

House Bill 2384 excludes from the state’s Working Poor Tax Credit Program any organizations that “provide, pay for, promote, provide coverage of or provide referrals for abortions” or that financially support any organizations that do those things.

The Working Poor Tax Credit Program offers Arizona taxpayers a dollar-for-dollar tax credit to donate to organizations that serve low-income residents. Individuals can claim up to $200, and a couple filing jointly can claim up to $400.

Quoth Center for Arizona Policy Attorney Deborah Sheasby on the matter:

“It is outrageous that they are trying to demand that the government give them a benefit for abortion-related activities,” Sheasby said.

No, what’s outrageous is that CAP and Republican Arizona legislators think it’s okey-dokey to deny all tax credits to organizations assisting domestic violence victims because they may refer some clients to abortion providers if asked by them. Great family values there, you guys. Then again, I have never thought you had the well-being of women and children foremost in your minds. At all.
