Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt, Nathan Sproul

Nathan Sproul runs a political consulting firm here in AZ called Lincoln Strategies, where he makes a pile of money advising Republican candidates. Sproul is known for dirty tricks and he garnered national attention back in 2004 when he ran this thing called Voter Outreach of America. Except he possibly didn’t want to reach out to all of America. Some people alleged Sproul only wanted Republicans to vote and, thus, trained his canvassers to reach out to potential Republican voters whenever possible in their voter registration efforts. When some Americans in Nevada and Oregon insisted on registering as Democrats, their registrations were destroyed, allegedly.

Sproul is under scrutiny recently for voter registration shenanigans. His firm is accused of turning in fraudulent voter registrations and has been fired by the RNC. This time Sproul isn’t accused of destroying opposing party registrations. Instead, county officials in Florida are claiming that Sproul’s firm may have forged Republican voter registrations. Isn’t this the very thing that Republicans constantly accuse Democrats of doing? Sproul has been implicated in forging signatures on petitions several times, most notably in 2004 for Ralph Nader. But forging signatures is one thing – if you get away with it your candidate gets on the ballot. Forging registrations doesn’t do anything to help your candidates get elected. I would think it was purely driven by financial incentive but Sproul’s Twitter feed from the past few days leads me to think there’s some real denial going on here. Nathan Sproul has always struck me as a true believer who is not merely in it for the money and power. I mean, he’s totally enriching himself in the process, but I think Sproul is convinced that he’s serving a higher cause with his compulsive cheating.

Don’t forget that Nathan Sproul got his start in the early ’90s as one of the ringleaders of the Arizona branch of the Christian Coalition. If that doesn’t brand him as a Kool-Aid drinker, I don’t know what will.

The only ones drinking the Kool-Aid are liberals.
