Pearce lied about cutting a deal with the Chamber on the immigration bill.

Zelph has been following and exposing the deceit of Republican Legislators and business leaders in the crafting of SB 1070. He left this comment on my post about it the other day:

See the April 23rd Arizona Capital Times for the full story of how Pearce neutralized the AZ Chamber, but here’s the short version:

Pearce agreed to remove a major section of the bill that would have allowed county attorney to subpoena records from businesses suspected of hiring illegal aliens in return for the Chamber remaining neutral on SB1070.

Glen Hamer didn’t want to piss off the wingnuts and figured this was the best deal they could hope for: Focus on landscapers and maids rather than auditing business who employ them, keep them tax cuts coming and we’ll all be happy.

Do you suppose if Rasmussen included this bit of information about the bill in the polling it did on it that it would still have 70% approval?

Zelph (bless his heart) pushed the issue with Jay Lawrence of KTAR. From his facebook page yesterday:

I just mentioned this arrangement on the air with Jay Lawrence of KTAR and he said he would ask Russell Pearce about it when he has him on as a guest tomorrow evening (7pm KTAR 92.3 FM) Call in number in Phx: 277-KTAR

How did Sen. Pearce respond?

The very last question before Sen. Pearce was about to leave, Jay finally asked him if he’d cut any deals with the AZ Chamber of Commerce to get SB1070 passed. “Absolutely not”, answered Pearce. Jay then asked a followup question about the portion of the bill giving subpoena power to county attorneys. Pearce admitted that this section had been removed and that “we’ll live to fight about this another day.” No time for another question about at whose behest this section had been removed or why. Sen. Pearce appears to be lying about this matter…

Ya think? And why is it that only the Capitol Times ran the story? This should be getting reported everywhere.

Um…A Republican AZ state senator who’s lips are moving?

I for one am proud that we have focused much of AZs limited financial resources on a law that will most likely end up in federal court, if not at the Supremes.

Children? Get Real. Edumaction? C’mon! Seniors?… Who?

I have done a bit of rant before, and I cannot emphasise enough, but the cuts are bottom up. You can only rearrange the the chairs on the Ttitanic so many times.

I had to reread.downstairs. Thank you so very much. I’m in a mood today and that helped.

I do so appreciate the sentiment, but I doubt a womans XL will take care of me.

“Rich white guys destroy the economy so the obvious corrective action is to punish poor brown people.” Best explanation yet on what is going on.

Appleblossom my sweet, ( i do love your nym) , do not wish to be condesceding but it’s been going on for all time.

If you read history, when the powers that be feel threatend, they choose an outspoken but vulnerable group they can demonize.

Oh I know, nothing changes under the sun.

Well okay, except when Frank L. Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz. That was new.

So what was it? The question he went without enough time to answer?

Did he cut a deal with the Az Chamber? If so with who? Is there someone in particular that answers to Pearce? Is this why they have been eerily silent?

In comparison to the Az Hispanic Chamber?

Why are the two entities not working together on this issue?

The Arizona Capitol Times claims that Pearce cut a deal with Glen Hamer of the AZ Chamber.

I bet Glen Hamer wishes he could go back in time, as it will most certainly be his constituents, and the rest of the Az Chamber, paying the biggest price!! Ha!!

Thanks to San Fran, LA, and All of Calif (Arnie Schwartz Included), NOT to mention Sports, Conventions, and others, that have Neg impression of this state!

He may be his own worst enemy. Not to mention the rest of the Chambers.

    Especially like this quote:
“While Broome thinks lawmakers had good intentions in passing the law, he thinks they underestimated the negative national reaction.”

There is a new call to completely, boycott business IN Az. The rumor mill has it, that the Hispanic community in Az, is now pushing to by goods through the internet. Not to buy in stores, in Az. Hows that for a complete backlash, at this Bigoted law!!
